Dev: SM: Elevations API

Introduction

The Streetmaps Elevations API V2 is based on the Google Elevations API. It is a drop-in replacement with some enhancements.

For the base documentation, consult The Google Elevation API. The base URL has changed from http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/elevation to https://www.streetmaps.co.za/api/elevation/xml - all the arguments work the same.

Mandatory Changes

You need to specify your API key in the parameters with key=<YOURKEY>.

Examples

• XML elevations for 113 points on a a route

• Same points, but thinned to 100 points on a path

Limitations

Currently, the service is fairly slow as it's in a beta form. Performance increases and optimization are planned.
